Frequently Asked Questions

How do you stack Farms?

The AeroGarden Farm Stacking System is a must-have for stacking your Farm 12 or Farm 24 model, including the Farm, Farm Plus or Farm XL. The kit allows you to create a beautiful living wall. Upward and onward! This accessory allows you to grow vertically, safely. Brackets securely attach to the wall to ensure that your gardens are stable and will stay in place. This stacking kit comes in black or white to attractively attach two AeroGarden Farm models vertically. Create your own vertical garden stack or chain of lush, full gardens that become the centerpiece of a room.

What is the trellis for?

The trellis is an accessory that helps support medium and tall plants, such as tomatoes, peppers, and eggplant. Help your plants grow taller by supporting them before they develop heavy fruit. We have trellis systems available for Bounty and Farm models. For smaller gardens, like the Sprout and Harvest, try bamboo sticks, chopsticks or our Soft Ties to support your plants. Stick them down inside the grow pods next to the stem. Plants will grow up leaning into them or you can tie gently to the support. Early support can keep plants from collapsing under the weight of the fruit (tragic if it happens just before harvest).

How do I prune Tomatoes/Peppers?

Fruiting vegetables, like tomatoes, peppers, and Fairy Tale eggplants, do require a little more attention and care than herbs, flowers, and salads. Here is a blog post with some more information about growing these plants that might help you to be successful with your AeroGarden veggies.

Can you transplant AeroGarden plants?

Yes, AeroGarden plants can be transplanted into soil. Here is a blog post with more information about how to transplant AeroGarden plants.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Grow your own fresh, no pesticides, cheaper? We enjoy growing our own vegetables, free of any pesticides of any kind, and eating them fresh off the vine so to speak. However, that being said, no one should think that they will save money doing it. The energy efficient LED lighting consumes a lot of energy when left on according to the schedule, and our electrical bill has gone up significantly, much more than if we had just bought organically grown vegetables. Yes, store bought organically grown vegetables will typically have “organic” pesticides, so they are not entirely free of pesticides, and that is a factor to consider. Each person will have to decide whether being entirely free of pesticides, and having vegetables freshly picked is worth the extra cost. For us, it feels worthwhile, but for many that may not be so.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Perfect for lettuce farm! I have a FarmXL as well, and while I love it, I felt it was somewhat excessive, its potential rather wasted growing lettuce in one of the two bays. So this year for Christmas, I got the regular Farm model to grow my lettuce. My first crop is nearing harvestable, and I am thrilled with it. I am not sure how pleased I would be if I was growing anything taller than lettuce, but for that it's perfect, leaving my XL for tomatoes and peppers that will better take advantage of its additional height.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from The best home hydroponic system I've ever used! Bought two Aerogarden Farms, the Farm & Farm Plus. They are both doing phenomenally well, out of all 48 pods only 2 did not germinate. Having tried other hydroponics with only half germinating this is definitely a step up. The new features to drain & replace the water could not be easier to do either. I've been eating lettuce since week 3, and tomatoes are now growing too. Very impressed!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Loved the Farm Plus so much, I bought another Got a Farm Plus in early March. Within 1 week, I had lettuce and herbs starting to sprout. 2 weeks later, I was starting to harvest lettuce and pick some of the herbs for cooking. It is now mid-may and my 3 lettuce plants give me a big family bowl of lettuce every week. I loved it so much so much, I bought a Farm as an additional unit, so that I can have more lettuce but also kale, tomatoes, peppers... It is not much more complicated or troublesome than keeping interior plants alive and I have fresh produce handy at all times. No more lettuce from the store withering in the fridge: I take what I need from the garden when I need it and it taste amazing. The unit tells you when to add water (almost every day when your garden is established). Ideally, you change the water every week (although Aerogarden recommends each month). It is a rather expansive set up and you can have a DIY installation for probably 1/3 of the price, but it will not be as nice looking. Not even close. Just understand prior to ordering that the room you put it in will "glow in the dark" - the lights are very strong. No more winter blues with that, guaranteed. Also note that you have 12 holes to grow plants in each of the 2 reservoirs, but in reality, you can only grow about 6 plants in each reservoir. Actually probably just 3 if you have peppers and tomatoes.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Love the system, could use a few improvements. I really like it, farm to table can't be better. Organic, fresh, no pesticides, no plastic containers every week. No transport by truck/boat half across the world. Tasty greens every day. The biggest flaw is that lights on this model seem to be a bit too hot/close for lettuce. It's placed on the ground, but I have to keep the lights all the way up and still some leaves get "burned". I also have a 24 Farm XL and on both models I cannot rely on the water level meter. It's probably tangled in the roots, so I just have to manually check the water level. I'm confident that this type of indoor, hydroponic farming is the future for many families that care about their food and the environment.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Go with the Plus or XL...too short I have a Farm 24XL and love it. It works well has plenty of room for taller plants. I bought the Basic to stack on top of my XL and wish I had gone with the Plus for vertical space. I also have sent and email to customer service because the control panel does not have the option to slowly turn lights on and off like my XL. I am not sure if that is intentional or not. No reply in last 3 days from them. Then to make things worse the left light panel stopped functioning today. I have reset all the connections without change. Another thing I noted on this model is the light panels do not lift to an equal distance. I have to wonder about the QA on these units with the differences in how each is performing so far. I guess I could have gotten a lemon.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Farm basic and xl All of my farms are preforming well, for the most part. The problem with the basic is that everything grows too tall, very quickly. I have lettuces and greens growing but even these are too tall so I’m not sure what to grow in them. My plan is to try mints and flowers next. The marvel of the seasons has never germinated for me and I have planted it four separate times. So far, the app is working well in my basics but my original farm xl no longer connects to my internet. They are all easy to care for and I have enjoyed gardening year round.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Absolutely crazy. This thing is completely out of control, making plants grow at proposterous pace. So we have 4 basil plants that we harvest 75g of leaves from every 2 weeks. We can't keep up eating lettuce - every pod re-grows a plant ready to harvest in 2 weeks. Even the microgreens grew 6 inches tall. We do have the XL farm where we grow 4 tomato plants. The youngest plants are about 5 weeks old and are about to give their first fruits. the oldest plant, being about 8-9 weeks old has about 2 dozen fruits and another dozen flowers. Then there's plumeria plant that we bought as a stick, thinking it wouldn't make it anyway. It took the stick some time to come to life, and it's growing leaves at half inch per day, sprouting a new one every 4-5 days.
