Our Favorite Designer's Seed Starting Journey

Take a walk down memory lane as Amanda recalls her seed starting experience.

Hi! My name is Amanda, and I've been helping the AeroGarden team with packaging design and other various design projects this past year. With my location in East Texas, my growing season starts early. Seed starting season always seems to sneak up, and before I know it, we are in full swing into Spring. Determined that this would not be my situation this year, I decided to utilize seed starting in my AeroGarden Bounty.

First, I take pen to paper and plan out what I hope to plant in my raised beds this growing season. Usually, planting a few extras is the best practice as sometimes our little seedlings don't make it after hardening off and transplanting. And besides, what is wrong with a few extra plants?

Once I had my count, it was time to map out my seeds for the Bounty Seed Starting Kit.

As I set out to plan my Bounty, I soon realized that my kit didn't come with a guide to notate what I planted in my garden in which location. Being a novice grower, I'm ignorant of what my plants look like as tiny seedlings. I found an illustration of the seed starting tray (thanks to being part of the AeroGarden team) and numbered the slots to coordinate with a numbered list. I tend to write large, so trying to write in those small circles wouldn't happen for me.

This process worked well enough for me, but I knew if I needed this, so would the AeroGarden community. I reached out to a co-worker and learned we DID have a seed starting guide, which included a diagram of our seed starting trays that we had previously done. Taking the old version of the guide and modifying it to be updated and more user-friendly, I created this fillable Seed Starting Guide PDF so you can easily track your seedlings in your seed starting kit.

It's fascinating watching how fast these seeds start to grow. In just five days, I had the start of my spring garden beginning to show promise for a great growing season.

Happy Growing!

Amanda
