Frequently Asked Questions

AeroGardens are designed to help you grow your own herbs, vegetables, salad greens or flowers at home. Our Seed Pod Kits are compatible with every model of AeroGarden. Planting with Seed Pods is fun and easy! Just insert the pre-seeded pods in your garden, add water, and the patented, specially formulated Liquid Nutrients. Most plants germinate within 7-14 days, are ready for harvesting in 4-6 weeks, and will keep producing continuous harvests for up to 6 months and longer. Indoor gardening can’t get any tastier or simpler!

Pruning your herbs is important to keep them growing and healthy in your AeroGarden. You can start pruning when the plants are about 2 inches tall. We recommend only pruning about ⅓ of the plant at a time. When growing herbs, keep in mind basil usually sprouts within a week of planting, and grows rapidly. Be sure to prune your basil from the top as needed to keep the grow lights at the lowest position until all the herbs have a chance to catch up. Raising the grow light to accommodate the basil can slow or stop growth for other smaller, slower-growing herbs.

Insects like whitefly, aphids, and mites that go after plant tissue all stay in check in an outdoor garden because of natural predators. Thankfully there is a natural balance and plenty of predators in the world. Plants grown in an AeroGarden are susceptible to all the same pests as other indoor houseplants. They can enter your home through open windows, on clothing, or on produce, flowers, or potted plants. If you see fine white threads on or between leaves, tiny black or green specks on stems or the underside of leaves, or a sticky substance on the surface of the leaves or grow deck, your plants may have picked up some hitchhikers.

After each planting, we recommend cleaning and sanitizing your AeroGarden for the best results.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from DIY label failure issue I love the idea and I made it work but found it very frustrating. Having to iron on the pod lable was very difficult, they were off center and didn't sit right causing the domes to keep falling off which effected the germination of the seeds. Many of the seeds didn't take (because of the product OR me, older seeds) so I just added more and tried again. This time I trimmed back the whole label and just set it on the pods so the tops would stay on. I also don't care for a pod that doesn't easily come apart for planting but I can live with that. I like the whole aero garden product I just did not like the DIY iron on labels. That is a product failure.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from I can grow anything Many of the plants available for AeroGarden are not necessarily things that that I grow. I almost always use the grow anything packs. I've grown peas and beans, many many varieties of micro dwarf and dwarf tomatoes including Micro Tom, Tiny Tim, Orange Hat, Geranium Kiss, Bundaberg Rumball. Sometimes I use the grow anything to start my seedlings and then transfer to the garden. I can't even tell you how many Sungold tomatoes I started that way. Another is that you can grow multiple different types of plants for example I grew a Japanese brand of cucumber with varieties of peppers and a little kale because basically for these I just wanted to get them going well and transplant outside.

Rated 2 out of 5 by from Issues with order being fulfilled I understand that do to the COVID pandemic that shipping would be delayed. However when it finally arrived it wasnt complete. I recieved less than half the grow domes. So I emailed the customer service and they sent me another package. Second package finally arrives and it is again short grow domes, 23 grow domes to be exact. So I emailed customer service AGAIN. So finally on the 3rd package I have everything I ordered. Not sure if I would order again from them directly as it was a huge pain to get my order completed. Doesnt seem like a big deal to some but when you have a bigger aerogarden like the farm you need all the grow domes.

Rated 2 out of 5 by from Limited success I was so very excited to try the grow anything kit after 2 successful lettuce and salsa kits. However, with the grow anything kit only 40 percent of the plants germinated. 2/12 spinach and 7/12 lettuce. Photos are at 12 days planted. I had hoped this would be financially more sustainable for me than the premade kits, but with success rates like that, I likely won’t be trying again. One last hurrah with what’s currently growing I guess. Also, a significant amount of the soil plugs didn’t have a hole in which to place seeds. Had to sift through the bag to find enough to use.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Yes to all things AeroGarden! I'm a huge fan of AeroGarden-anything! I've had tremendous success with all of my gardens - herb, tomato and flowers. My seed starter has given me wonderful initial yields that I was able to later transplant into abundant plants including bush beans, lettuce, swiss chard, lemon balm, echinacea, daisies, even cat nip! My most recent purchase (50 grow pods) enables me to grow a completely customized garden - what fun! I can hardly wait to get started - but first need to transplant one of my current gardens, first. Or, maybe I should buy a 3rd AeroGarden?? Your products are great and keep my hobby growing!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Ideal tomato, cucumber, and pepper system These grow pods allow us to choose seed varieties not available at Aerogarden. We have 3 Farm 12 XLs that we like to grow specific tomato, cucumber, and pepper seeds. The tomatoes are perfect-- larger than cherry variety, and we get about 20 cucumbers per growing cycle with one or two plants in each FarmXL. We plant 2 peppers--one a sweet bell, and one with heat. They thrive in this system. Success depends on proper feeding, water maintenance, and seed selection.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Horrible Products, Horrible Customer Service I wish I could give zero stars. Horrible product and horrible customer service. I received the package completely ripped open and used. When I contacted customer support and sent them pictures they simply said it got damaged while being delivered and there’s nothing they can do to help. I would understand if the box was squished and crumpled but the box was actually ripped open from all sides and front cover basically torn off with all the contents inside falling out. The UPS packaging was still intact, proving my point. How does the inside get damaged but not the outside? They actually sent me a damaged product knowing so. I will never shop from this company ever again. There are plenty of other companies that are similar to this one that I will purchase from, from now on. Avoid this company.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Wonderful hobby for year round gardening! Have had these for nearly four years. At first, it was 5 stars. But last year I got a number of dud pods. Nothing grew. The guarantee to replace them was somewhat true. I had to answer a bunch of questions about how I used the units (I have 3) and it seemed like they were trying to prove it was my errors. It wasn’t. It was seed pods that would not germinate. There was a lot of back and forth. Since I have been using these for years, I know how to use them. Finally I got some replacement pods. I grow herbs and lettuce mostly. Great hobby if you like to tend to plants. I do plant them outside with excellent success.

Questions

The lights are super bright. Are there any covers that you can buy?

Asked by: Luv2grow
We do not recommend covering your garden, as the plants need airflow. We recommend changing the time the lights are On/Off or moving the garden to a different location. If you have additional questions, please feel free to call us, our team is available by phone Monday-Friday from 8 AM – 8 PM EST, and 8 AM – 5 PM EST on Saturday. We can be reached at 937-915-2583.

I want to grow strawberries or blueberries. how would I get those seeds?

Asked by: kathy
When using our Grow Anything seed pod kits, you supply the seeds yourself for whatever you wish to grow. We do not sell seeds on their own and have no information on where strawberry and blueberry seeds may be purchased.

Has anyone tried to grow cilantro? It gets too hot where I live to grow it outside.

Asked by: Kelly
Cilantro germinates best when temperatures are below 70°F (21°C). The AeroGarden with lights on will provide temperatures above ideal germination temperatures for Cilantro while providing the light and temperatures needed for other plants being grown. For best Cilantro germination, place your seed pod in a cup with about an inch of water and place it in the coolest spot in your house ideally where temperatures are under 70°F (21°C) is best. Check your Cilantro every day. As soon as it germinates, drop it in your AeroGarden.

Yes, you can put any seed into the AeroGarden Grow Anything Kit sponges. However keep in mind the size of your Garden; larger or taller vegetables will not grow well in a smaller sized Garden.
