This guy is a classic for good reason. Tall and compact, the long, spear-shaped leaves of the snake plant draw the eye upward, adding a sense of height to a space of any size. Adaptable and hardy, it thrives even with a touch of neglect (okay, we admit it, we forget to water ours now and then and it’s still going great).

Don’t let the name fool you. The Snake plant is a real charmer. First cultivated in China, it was believed that the eight gods bestowed their virtues – beauty, long life, prosperity, intelligence, art, poetry, health and strength – upon those who grew the plant. With its lush two-tone design, it’s certainly beautiful in any space (we can’t promise the other stuff, but it’s worth a shot!)

Snake plants are rather low maintenance and a resilient succulent varietal. It is recommended to water your snake plant every 2 to 8 weeks, depending on the soil mix and pot size. When watering indoor plants, make sure to stick to a watering schedule. For example, it might need less water in the winter than in the summer, when the sun is more intense.Be cautious to not water your snake plant too much, because soggy soil can lead to root rot. Perfect growing conditions for snake plants are indirect, low-light conditions. Some snake plants may tolerate direct sunlight once they become adapted to it.
