Frequently Asked Questions

AeroGardens are designed to help you grow your own herbs, vegetables, salad greens or flowers at home. Our Seed Pod Kits are compatible with every model of AeroGarden. Planting with Seed Pods is fun and easy! Just insert the pre-seeded pods in your garden, add water, and the patented, specially formulated Liquid Nutrients. Most plants germinate within 7-14 days, are ready for harvesting in 4-6 weeks, and will keep producing continuous harvests for up to 6 months and longer. Indoor gardening can’t get any tastier or simpler!

Lettuce is one of the fastest-growing indoor crops and it's a staple. Who doesn't love to be healthy with delicious home-grown lettuce, or add a fresh leaf of romaine on their sandwich, or a salad of tasty arugula? And with AeroGarden, you can enjoy delicious Spring greens all throughout fall and winter! As a general rule, never prune more than ⅓ of any plant at once.

Different types of plants take different amounts of time to germinate and grow. In general, we’ve found these germination timeframes to be consistent:

  • Flowers take about 7-12 days Salads: 5-8 days
  • Herbs: 5-15 days
  • Fruiting vegetables (such as tomatoes and peppers): 7-14 days

If any of your seed pods don’t germinate after 21 days, contact us so we can send out a replacement for you under our 100% germination guarantee.

After each planting, we recommend cleaning and sanitizing your AeroGarden for the best results.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Either a design or production problem, they leak! Terrible is the only word to describe this product. I'm a big fan of Aerogarden, and currently have 7 of them in my home, and one in the office. However, the 2020 AeroVoir is terrible. I purchased 2 units, and both of them leak. Apparently, there is an issue where the tubing meets the bulb. I was in contact with customer service, and they suggested I cut a small amount of tubing and reinsert it into the bulb. Unfortunately, this did not resolve the problem. Aerogarden customer service indicated they would be replacing the the part when their workers return. At the present time, I've stopped using them as they would harm furniture and floor from the leaking.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Poorly Designed I have had mine set up since around February. Set up seemed easy and it looked like it was going to work. Unfortunately, I left town for about a month due to the Covid-19 and came back to dieing plants. I checked the tank of my Black Harvest and It was empty. The reservoir did not do it's job. I gave it a few pumps to see if I can get the flow of water back in there which helped get some water back in there but must have caused some back wash because a few days later mold was in the reservoir. Then a few days later I notice puddles over water everywhere leaking from the hand pump. I'm going to find a better solution maybe install a one day valve. Going to fix what AeroGarden failed to design.

Rated 2 out of 5 by from Removed the primer Ended up removing the primer, it leaks all over the place and you have to reprime every could of hours. Nice idea but poorly implemented. The o-rings used in the primer does not feel like a snug fit it attaches and disconnects pretty easily. Not sure why the nipple couldn’t have just been made on the primer itself removing the need for o-rings. Either way if you are having issues remove the primer and attach directly to the hard plastic tubing(Warning: doing so leaves you approximately 6 inches of tubing). The airline tubing on the housing is clamped on and might need very small zip tie if you replace the airline tubing to give a good seal. After removing primer no more leaks and it stays primed.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Mixed It works, but I had to do quit a bit of fiddling around to get it the right height. Even though the instructions said I wouldn’t need the base for my model, I did end up using it to get the height it needed to continually feed my garden’s water level. It would also be helpful if a cleaning tool was included...maybe the world’s smallest bottle brush? The clear tubing grows algae and the only way I’ve found to clean it is to remove it and soak it overnight in a weak bleach solution. It would also be helpful to be able to fill the reservoir from the top without having to pick it up, turn it over, and unscrew the cap.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Works for me I have 3 of these and all are working fine Except that with a 6 pod garden, it still needs the base extension to work properly. As others, I had some problems during initial setup with getting the water flowing. Shame that Aerogarden did not include a one way valve so the the bulb pump could only flow water in one direction. To get each of mine working correctly, I held the entire areovoir up for a short time after freeing the line of bubbles. Since that initial setup, I have not had to do it again. Not sure why there are problems with leaking from tubing-to-bulb connections as that setup is the same as the previous versions and I still have four of those working without leaks.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from AeroVoir The proper height adjustment to get sufficient refill and not overflow is tricky - I first figured it out with increasing layers of cardboard over a few days - My window sill is anything but level. Every time I added a cardboard under the reservoir, I waited until the water level in the AeroGarden had stabilized before adding the next one. Instead of the stand for the larger AeroGardens, it would be nice to have adjustable feet (via a screw for leveling and fine tuning of height) on the reservoir. Aside from the issue I had with adjusting the height, I have been overall happy with the reservoir. Works as advertised and helps not to have to refill water in the AeroGarden 1-2 times a day.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Just Works! I love my aerogarden because I can grow cherry tomatoes with little to no effort. Vine ripened cherry tomatoes are nothing like store bought. However, when the tomatoes are on the vines and developing the plants drink a lot of water each day, so much that if I didn't refill it daily they would die of thirst within 3-4 days. This AeroVoir just works and will be particularly handy when we are on vacation. I have the 2020 version.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from AeroVoir 2019 review I bought this AeroVoir to keep my water level up in my aerogarden while we were away for a few days. Tried it at home for a few weeks and it did nothing. Did online chat to make sure of the model number I had so knew I wasn’t supposed to use the lift extension. After many weeks of it not working, had my husband check it again to see if I did setup wrong and he said it was correct. Still not working so put it on extension and it did work but I’m afraid of overflow now so took it off. I see this model is no longer on the website so maybe others had this problem??? Very disappointed as I love my AeroGardens and the plant growth has been plentiful, but this AeroVoir purchased 2 years ago doesn’t work.

I have had the AeroVoir for 5 years. Just this year, there is green mold growing in the tank and the spout that goes directly into the AeroGarden. I do sanitize the AeroGarden, but what is causing this mold growth? Plants are fine.

Asked by: Shirley
What you describe is likely not mold, but rather, algae. You may notice algae growing in your AeroVoir or around the edge of the holes in your AeroGarden grow deck. Algae will sometimes develop with a hydroponic setup. Algae is harmless to your plants, so there is no need to worry. To clean algae in your AeroVoir, here are some suggestions we recommend. 1. Use a paper towel to wipe away the algae you see growing. 2. Rinse the AeroVoir tank with warm water to remove any excess algae that wasn't wiped up from the paper towel. If you continue to see algae growing in your AeroGarden, you may add a small amount of food-grade* hydrogen peroxide (1 teaspoon) to the AeroVoir tank. *Food Grade Hydrogen Peroxide is 35% H2O2 and 65% water.

I just set this up for the first time. Is the water pump supposed to bubble the water on the Classic 6? I head a faint hum but don't see any water movement. (model number 901016-1200).

I cannot get mine to work. Either the water flows continuously and overflows my aerogarden, or it doesn't flow at all. I've tried raising and lowering the watering system but still does not work properly. I have Sprout and BountyElite.

Asked by: olga84
When you first place the water jug on the base, it is not uncommon to see bubbles. When water is flowing, it is normal to see bubbles or hear gurgling in the water jug. The AeroVoir and AeroGarden must be placed at the same level or with the AeroVoir slightly elevated compared to the garden. Make sure there are no kinks in the tubing that runs from the AeroVoir to the AeroGarden. Squeeze the primer pump 5-10 times, if there is no flow of water, try pinching the tubing between the primer pump and the AeroGarden. This will suck the water only from the AeroVoir side. You should be able to see the water pool into the primer pump. If still having issues, try elevating the AeroVoir using the extension stand that was provided, or placing a book or block of wood underneath the AeroVoir. You will want to raise it only an inch or two at a time. Raising it too high will cause the water to overfill or overflow the garden. Once the water starts to flow, you will see it equal out once the water levels in both the garden and the AeroVoir have equalled out. If water continues to flow, it is because the AeroVoir is too high. If you continue to have issues, please call us, our team is available by phone Monday-Friday from 8 AM – 8 PM EST, and 8 AM – 5 PM EST on Saturday. We can be reached at 937-915-2583.

My tank is suddenly not filling the garden basin. I can see water moving in the tube when I squeeze the bulb so I do not believe that it is clogged.
