Whiskey Smash

Refreshing twist for your mint!

So, you've been stuck at home for approximately the last 150 years (it seems like), you've got your plants growing inside, your children are inside, the pets are inside, and it feels as if the only thing leaving the house right now is your sanity. We're here to help. Whiskey Smashes are a refreshing and citrusy cousin to the Mint Julep and are easy to throw together. First, you'll need the following:

3 Lemon Wedges
4-5 Homegrown AeroGarden Mint Leaves
3/4 oz Simple Syrup (or add more to taste if your prefer a slightly sweeter drink and find the recipe here: https://www.liquor.com/recipes/simple-syrup/)
2 oz of the Bourbon of your choice

Muddle the lemon wedges in a shaker. Don't have one? Shaking them vigorously in a closed mason jar works just as well and you can smash them up a bit more with the back of a spoon.

Add the rest of the ingredients, plus ice, and shake again.

Next, you'll need to strain the contents into a class with a few ice cubes in it.

For garnish, you can lightly rub a sprig of mint in your hands and pop that on top of the drink. It adds a tiny bit of flavor and scent to the overall experience, but it's mostly for appearances and since we're all wearing pajamas right now we won't judge you if you leave that last part off.

This drink also tastes great with a squeeze of orange if you'd like an extra citrusy kick. In that case, drop the number of lemon wedges down to two. Mint is included in our Gourmet Herbs, and Italian Herbs Seed Pod Kits, or you can build it into your custom kits!
