Frequently Asked Questions

How do AeroGardens work?

AeroGardens are designed to help you grow your own herbs, vegetables, salad greens or flowers at home. Our Seed Pod Kits are compatible with every model of AeroGarden. Planting with Seed Pods is fun and easy! Just insert the pre-seeded pods in your garden, add water, and the patented, specially formulated Liquid Nutrients. Most plants germinate within 7-14 days, are ready for harvesting in 4-6 weeks, and will keep producing continuous harvests for up to 6 months and longer. Indoor gardening can’t get any tastier or simpler!

How do I prune Lettuce/Salads?

Lettuce is one of the fastest-growing indoor crops and it's a staple. Who doesn't love to be healthy with delicious home-grown lettuce, or add a fresh leaf of romaine on their sandwich, or a salad of tasty arugula? And with AeroGarden, you can enjoy delicious Spring greens all throughout fall and winter! As a general rule, never prune more than ⅓ of any plant at once.

How do you treat bugs on AeroGarden plants?

How do I clean my AeroGarden before starting a new garden?

After each planting, we recommend cleaning and sanitizing your AeroGarden for the best results.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Elongated Salad Stems I love my Aerogarden in general I now have two of them. I have read that the salad sometimes last up to 6 months and some people even say for a year. I had this salad since May 11 and now June 10 I have harvested twice. But as you can see the stem of the salad is super long, even though all the salad pods grow at the same height (right now I just harvested so it doesn't looks so) meaning not one or two salads needs to grow higher to reach the light. Is there any secret to make it last for 6 months? At this rate by next harvest I have to replace the pod the stems would be too long to have a full grown salad before hitting the lights. Thank you.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Love my summer lettuce garden! Every summer I grow at least one batch of lettuce. The batch I now have in my six pod is 24 days old and ready to harvest. The leaves are now large enough to cover a slice of bread when you are making sandwiches. Once the plants are larger I can start harvesting for salads. I don't harvest individual varieties. I give the leaves a one inch haircut across the top for mixed green salads. They grow back very quickly. Lettuce in the grocery loses a lot of flavor after the time it takes to harvest, transport, store and finally get to where produce is sold. This lettuce is so fresh! It's nice to have lettuce that you don't have to wash dirt away and consider contamination from the soil. This way you harvest what you need. A quick rinse. Enjoy! Love that fresh lettuce!

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Avoid Save money, buy the bigger kits. Small kits are over-priced, the larger the kit, the better the deal. Even for a 6-pod garden, the 24-pod kits make sense because you will still use them within a year.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from I don’t eat salads otherwise . . . Grows fast. I was eating salads at 21 days from dropping the pods in. The lettuce doesn’t have much crunch. Adding kale to the grow. Overall, I enjoy it.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Grow lettuce without hassle!!! Heirloom Salad Greens Seed Pod is already yielding leaves. They germinated after a week and I am sure I'll be able to start using them in less than months. This is the second time I am growing in AeroGarden, I have grown herbs kit that comes with AeroGarden and that harvest grows like a weed and I used them whole winter. I didn't have to buy any herbs over the winter. I had to take three herbs plant( that still harvesting herbs) out to grow Heirloom Salad Greens Seed Pod. The best part of Heirloom Salad Greens Seed Pod is NON-GMO. These Pods come with six seed pods, grow doms and Liquid Plant Food. I am excited to try salad green and I am not an expert to grow any plants. I put one capful of liquid plant food every week and Aorogarden does rest of the work.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Lettuce, Lessons, and Learning! I planted three Heirloom Salad Greens seed pods. It was a lot of fun to watch them; they grow quickly and taste great. And they're really gorgeous when the garden gets all full and lush! I made some really nice little salads, throwing in kale from the Kale Mix pods, and lots of herbs. Five stars in those departments! But, I'll subtract a star for the few problems I encountered. Firstly, 3 pods of lettuce don't make as much salad as I'd hoped. If you like a "meal salad" (vs a "side" salad), you'll need to plant a lot more pods! We are three adult salad monsters in our home, and I'm not sure how big an Aerogarden, or how many, we'd need to have as much lettuce, kale, and other greens as we would like! Secondly, there are tricks for growing lettuce successfully that I had to dig deep to learn via lots of googling and reading. a. Lettuce "bolts." Mine bolted -- when I cut the leaves, white milky fluid came out, and the leaves had become so bitter they were inedible. b. I encountered "root rot" in a couple of the pods. The roots became nasty brown, shrively, and the lettuce became stunted. c. I was only able to harvest for a few weeks at best, then the lettuce was "gone" as far as growing any more. I learned: - to keep a small fan on the lettuce a few hours a day; it's a "cool temperature" plant. - to put a couple of ice cubes in the reservoir morning and evening. - not to let the lights be too close to the lettuce; again, they need to be a little bit cool. - to keep my water (whether tap or filtered) as close to Ph 6.5 as possible. It would have been helpful to have more specific instructions on how to grow the salad greens successfully. But, in the digging, I learned a lot on the internet, and more about growing other veggies and greens as well; pruning, thinning, Ph factors, and much more. As my lettuce and greens knowledge grows, so grows some really beautiful, fresh, delicious salad greens -- no regrets!

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Good and bad I've been growing for several years. In the last year or so I've noticed that not all pods in a 7 pod kit germinate and grow. I then have to call and get a replacement. This happened last summer and spring and winter. One time a tomato plant grew from a lettuce Pod. At these prices I expect perfection. I don't know why the quality appears to be inferior lately.
