Frequently Asked Questions

AeroGardens are designed to help you grow your own herbs, vegetables, salad greens or flowers at home. Our Seed Pod Kits are compatible with every model of AeroGarden. Planting with Seed Pods is fun and easy! Just insert the pre-seeded pods in your garden, add water, and the patented, specially formulated Liquid Nutrients. Most plants germinate within 7-14 days, are ready for harvesting in 4-6 weeks, and will keep producing continuous harvests for up to 6 months and longer. Indoor gardening can’t get any tastier or simpler!

Lettuce is one of the fastest-growing indoor crops and it's a staple. Who doesn't love to be healthy with delicious home-grown lettuce, or add a fresh leaf of romaine on their sandwich, or a salad of tasty arugula? And with AeroGarden, you can enjoy delicious Spring greens all throughout fall and winter!

As a general rule, never prune more than ⅓ of any plant at once.

Different types of plants take different amounts of time to germinate and grow. In general, we’ve found these germination timeframes to be consistent:

  • Flowers take about 7-12 days
  • Salads: 5-8 days
  • Herbs: 5-15 days
  • Fruiting vegetables (such as tomatoes and peppers): 7-14 days.

If any of your seed pods don’t germinate after 21 days, contact us so we can send out a replacement for you under our 100% germination guarantee.

After each planting, we recommend cleaning and sanitizing your AeroGarden for the best results.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Sponges used to grow plants for the garden. We started at least 300 seeds using these sponges: zinnias, basil, fennel, impatiens, vinca, petunias, lobelia, summer snapdragons, peppers, tomatoes. The list goes on and on. Most seeds came from packets I ordered online from places like Parks, Jung’s, and Burpee. When the plants have their secondary leaves I put them in a pot of soil and under AeroGarden lights. When danger of frost was gone I put them outside in a portable green house to harden off before I transplanted them in the garden. I had at least an 80% success rate. These sponges saved me a lot of money by not having to buy plants at a garden center.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Replacement sponges are of terrible quality. I tried to call but you no longer answer the phone, it's infuriating that they are still using COVID as and excuse not to answer the phone. I sent and e-mail did not get a reply. I filled out a customer service request form and did not get a reply. The sponges are not of the high quality and consistency of the originals. The are long, short fat skinny, huge hole on the top, bent, broken and some grew a green slime on the top. My guess is that they changed suppliers and are not doing quality control checks. I am trying to figure a way to make my own as these are horrible.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from So disappointed We start all our vegetables from seed and the aero garden starter system cuts the time down by days if not weeks. We ordered these because we were running low on the sponges that we bought last year. The sponges were misshapen and the hole for the seed was way too big. None of the seeds germinated in the new sponges, only the last of the old ones. When I contacted customer support, they told me that they had “redesigned” the sponges and the problem was our seeds, which we know is not the case. Wish they had left well enough alone.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Easy to use I bought these directly from Aerogarden (instead of a box store) because I could get a larger quantity and a better price. The plugs are much nicer than the ones that originally came with my Aerogarden that I bought about 3 years ago. It is easy to get seeds into these new plugs and they don't seem to become too wet for the seed to germinate.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Sponges and seeds I didn't like the sponges. They were too big inside and my plants getting lost in there and not coming up. I called to complain and their person told me they switched to them because some people used larger seeds. I has to order sponges from another source for the smaller seeds I was using. Aero Garden had their reasons for doing this and was relieved to know there wasn't a reduction in quality or senseless management. When everything is right, my aero garden gives me great results.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Too Big These new sponges will not fit inside the old styrofoam starter tray. I also don't understand why the planting holes are so large. Go back to the old supplier if that is the issue. For the price, the consumers deserve better!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Grow sponges I love that you offer grow sponges as an option to "preloaded" pods. They are the easiest, most convenient way for me to start my garden veggies and inside herbs using my own seeds. These in combination with the seed starting tray help me get off to a great start on my summer garden.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Terrible These grow sponges are very disappointing. They are all different sizes, some have large holes in the top, some small holes, some are fat, some are thin, others are bent and malformed. Nothing like the same quality as what you get when you are buying the seeded pod kits or the grow anything pods. I will never buy again.
