Frequently Asked Questions

How do AeroGardens work?

AeroGardens are designed to help you grow your own herbs, vegetables, salad greens or flowers at home. Our Seed Pod Kits are compatible with every model of AeroGarden. Planting with Seed Pods is fun and easy! Just insert the pre-seeded pods in your garden, add water, and the patented, specially formulated Liquid Nutrients. Most plants germinate within 7-14 days, are ready for harvesting in 4-6 weeks, and will keep producing continuous harvests for up to 6 months and longer. Indoor gardening can’t get any tastier or simpler!

How long do seed pods last?

Each of our Seed Pod Kits are tested for germination and expire one year after that date. To give you seeds the best chance to germinate, we recommend storing extra kits in a dark, cool, dry place. This will keep them cool and the seeds dormant until you’re ready to plant them in your AeroGarden. Some people store them in the vegetable drawer of their refrigerator in an airtight container or bag.

How do I prune Tomatoes/Peppers?

Fruiting vegetables, like tomatoes, peppers, and Fairy Tale eggplants, do require a little more attention and care than herbs, flowers, and salads.

What is the trellis for?

The trellis is an accessory that helps support medium and tall plants, such as tomatoes, peppers, and eggplant. Help your plants grow taller by supporting them before they develop heavy fruit. We have trellis systems available for Bounty and Farm models. For smaller gardens, like the Sprout and Harvest, try bamboo sticks, chopsticks or our Soft Ties to support your plants. Stick them down inside the grow pods next to the stem. Plants will grow up leaning into them or you can tie gently to the support. Early support can keep plants from collapsing under the weight of the fruit (tragic if it happens just before harvest).

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Trellis: Great idea-Good start-needs improvement Too much strain and the magnets do not hold! WHY only THREE cross wires? There should be at least 4! And you should be able to buy extras without having to purchase a second complete trellis system. The magnets will only go on the inside, so too much strain they break loose. They should fit on the outside and If the magnet holder would wrap around three sides of the post, then it would hold much better. I had to add a shoe lace to make up for only three cross pieces. Guess when my pepper plants get tall, I'll have to add more cross pieces with string or more shoe laces. I'll recommend with the above corrective ideas.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Follow the directions, not the webpage picture We have not had a problem with the trellis breaking, but agree with a previous reviewer that it would 1)make more sense to have the magnets clip to the outside of the uprights and 2) to provide 4 or 5 cross wires instead of 3. Interestingly, the picture of this product on its webpage shows the magnets clipped to the outside of the uprights and I, being one who goes by pictures more than written directions, initially set it up this way. Which did not work well. I THEN read the instructions and learned that the clips attach to the inside of the uprights. Overall, these are OK, but could benefit from improvements.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Very poorly designed. Good idea, poorly designed and executed. The cross cables are too short. This means you have to attach the magnet inside the bars instead of outside of the bars since the cross cables aren't long enough to attach with the main cables on the outside of the bars. This makes the whole system as it is much easier to pull the magnetic holders off the inside of the bars versus having them pull against the outside of the bars for stability. Any heavy fruit or vegetable is going to strip the system right off the bars. Need to go back to the drawing board, make the cable connection points much stronger. Invest in stronger magnets. And make the cross cables about 1 and a half inches longer.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Good design, poor assembly, easily fixed, useful. A nice system after the nuts are tightened. Here is how you do that: Received a Farm two days ago and had one of the magnetic ends of the trellis drop off as soon as we tried to use it. Opened up the black plastic end (insert blade of flat headed screw driver in seam at end, to one side, not in the center, and gently twist the driver to open the box) and found a spring and nut. Latter with a screw that is meant to clamp down on the cable. Threaded the spring onto the cable, then the nut so that 1/8th of an inch stuck through the other side, tightened the clamp screw to secure the nut to the cable and then placed the cable end-spring-nut assembly back into the plastic box. The spring is to keep the cable under light tension once the trellis is mounted on the Farm. Replaced the lid on the box and now the trellis works perfectly.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from very weak and fragile - breaks easily Got 2 with the Farm XL and moving them up snapped both of them where the wires connect. They are welded / soldered inside a plastic holder and that piece breaks super easy. It has to be tight to work (no choice they are pre measured - and that tightness is at the brink of breaking. Would not recommend until they fix this issue.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Great Idea, Total Failure To Execute The concept is good, but the execution is a failure. Every single set I have has broken while holding up AeroGarden tomatoes. The metal rope pulls out of the base. Sometimes nothing more is necessary then to spreading it out from metal pole to pole. Also the magnet is not strong enough to hold to the metal pole bars and pulls off under the weight of the tomato plants, no matter which side of the pole I put the magnet in.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Bountiful Harvest Received and set up the Farm Plus model 2/7/19. Planted tomato, lettuce, dill, and our own pepper seeds. Lettuce germinated in 3-4 days. In 3 weeks we were eating the four kinds of lettuce planted. Every two days we have a great harvest. Tomato pods also germinated and are about 4 inches tall. Peppers were slower to germinate and are approximately 1 inch high. This is a well designed product which is easy to set up and use. It sure is nice to have fresh chemical free produce in the middle of a Wisconsin winter. Use distilled water in the reservoirs.
