Frequently Asked Questions

How do AeroGardens work?

AeroGardens are designed to help you grow your own herbs, vegetables, salad greens or flowers at home. Our Seed Pod Kits are compatible with every model of AeroGarden. Planting with Seed Pods is fun and easy! Just insert the pre-seeded pods in your garden, add water, and the patented, specially formulated Liquid Nutrients. Most plants germinate within 7-14 days, are ready for harvesting in 4-6 weeks, and will keep producing continuous harvests for up to 6 months and longer. Indoor gardening can’t get any tastier or simpler!

How do I prune Lettuce/Salads?

Lettuce is one of the fastest-growing indoor crops and it's a staple. Who doesn't love to be healthy with delicious home-grown lettuce, or add a fresh leaf of romaine on their sandwich, or a salad of tasty arugula? And with AeroGarden, you can enjoy delicious Spring greens all throughout fall and winter! As a general rule, never prune more than ⅓ of any plant at once.

How long will it take my plants to germinate?

Different types of plants take different amounts of time to germinate and grow. In general, we’ve found these germination timeframes to be consistent:

  • Flowers take about 7-12 days Salads: 5-8 days
  • Herbs: 5-15 days
  • Fruiting vegetables (such as tomatoes and peppers): 7-14 days

If any of your seed pods don’t germinate after 21 days, contact us so we can send out a replacement for you under our 100% germination guarantee.

How do I clean my AeroGarden before starting a new garden?

After each planting, we recommend cleaning and sanitizing your AeroGarden for the best results.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Either a design or production problem, they leak! Terrible is the only word to describe this product. I'm a big fan of Aerogarden, and currently have 7 of them in my home, and one in the office. However, the 2020 AeroVoir is terrible. I purchased 2 units, and both of them leak. Apparently, there is an issue where the tubing meets the bulb. I was in contact with customer service, and they suggested I cut a small amount of tubing and reinsert it into the bulb. Unfortunately, this did not resolve the problem. Aerogarden customer service indicated they would be replacing the the part when their workers return. At the present time, I've stopped using them as they would harm furniture and floor from the leaking.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Poorly Designed I have had mine set up since around February. Set up seemed easy and it looked like it was going to work. Unfortunately, I left town for about a month due to the Covid-19 and came back to dieing plants. I checked the tank of my Black Harvest and It was empty. The reservoir did not do it's job. I gave it a few pumps to see if I can get the flow of water back in there which helped get some water back in there but must have caused some back wash because a few days later mold was in the reservoir. Then a few days later I notice puddles over water everywhere leaking from the hand pump. I'm going to find a better solution maybe install a one day valve. Going to fix what AeroGarden failed to design.

Rated 2 out of 5 by from Removed the primer Ended up removing the primer, it leaks all over the place and you have to reprime every could of hours. Nice idea but poorly implemented. The o-rings used in the primer does not feel like a snug fit it attaches and disconnects pretty easily. Not sure why the nipple couldn’t have just been made on the primer itself removing the need for o-rings. Either way if you are having issues remove the primer and attach directly to the hard plastic tubing(Warning: doing so leaves you approximately 6 inches of tubing). The airline tubing on the housing is clamped on and might need very small zip tie if you replace the airline tubing to give a good seal. After removing primer no more leaks and it stays primed.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Mixed It works, but I had to do quit a bit of fiddling around to get it the right height. Even though the instructions said I wouldn’t need the base for my model, I did end up using it to get the height it needed to continually feed my garden’s water level. It would also be helpful if a cleaning tool was included...maybe the world’s smallest bottle brush? The clear tubing grows algae and the only way I’ve found to clean it is to remove it and soak it overnight in a weak bleach solution. It would also be helpful to be able to fill the reservoir from the top without having to pick it up, turn it over, and unscrew the cap.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Works for me I have 3 of these and all are working fine Except that with a 6 pod garden, it still needs the base extension to work properly. As others, I had some problems during initial setup with getting the water flowing. Shame that Aerogarden did not include a one way valve so the the bulb pump could only flow water in one direction. To get each of mine working correctly, I held the entire areovoir up for a short time after freeing the line of bubbles. Since that initial setup, I have not had to do it again. Not sure why there are problems with leaking from tubing-to-bulb connections as that setup is the same as the previous versions and I still have four of those working without leaks.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from AeroVoir The proper height adjustment to get sufficient refill and not overflow is tricky - I first figured it out with increasing layers of cardboard over a few days - My window sill is anything but level. Every time I added a cardboard under the reservoir, I waited until the water level in the AeroGarden had stabilized before adding the next one. Instead of the stand for the larger AeroGardens, it would be nice to have adjustable feet (via a screw for leveling and fine tuning of height) on the reservoir. Aside from the issue I had with adjusting the height, I have been overall happy with the reservoir. Works as advertised and helps not to have to refill water in the AeroGarden 1-2 times a day.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Just Works! I love my aerogarden because I can grow cherry tomatoes with little to no effort. Vine ripened cherry tomatoes are nothing like store bought. However, when the tomatoes are on the vines and developing the plants drink a lot of water each day, so much that if I didn't refill it daily they would die of thirst within 3-4 days. This AeroVoir just works and will be particularly handy when we are on vacation. I have the 2020 version.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Sucks! But Buy It Now! I am extremely happy with this product! Yes, I said it “sucks” because it siphons water from the reservoir bottle into the Aerogarden, providing water as needed to grow your plants hydroponicly. I have a nine-pod garden and my plants will need all the water they can get! I am growing tomatoes and mini-jalapeños wth herbs etc. I liked this setup so much ... I bought another one so now my garden has about 2.6 gallons of water in reserve. The new shape etc of the AeroVoir fits the setup extremely well.
