Frequently Asked Questions

How do I prune Lettuce/Salads?

Lettuce is one of the fastest-growing indoor crops and it's a staple. Who doesn't love to be healthy with delicious home-grown lettuce, or add a fresh leaf of romaine on their sandwich, or a salad of tasty arugula? And with AeroGarden, you can enjoy delicious Spring greens all throughout fall and winter!

How do AeroGardens work?

AeroGardens are designed to help you grow your own herbs, vegetables, salad greens or flowers at home. Our Seed Pod Kits are compatible with every model of AeroGarden. Planting with Seed Pods is fun and easy! Just insert the pre-seeded pods in your garden, add water, and the patented, specially formulated Liquid Nutrients. Most plants germinate within 7-14 days, are ready for harvesting in 4-6 weeks, and will keep producing continuous harvests for up to 6 months and longer. Indoor gardening can’t get any tastier or simpler!

How do I use the Grow Bowl (for Bounty Classic/Ultra/Extra)?

The Grow Bowl replaces the Grow Deck of your AeroGarden Ultra/Ultra LED/Bounty Classic/Bounty Elite Classic. The Grow Bowl is then filled with a “soil-less” Grow Media (we recommend chunk coconut fiber). Live plants such as strawberry crowns, bonsai, dwarf fruit, mini roses, and orchids are planted in the media. The customizable pump on your AeroGarden will activate at the programmed intervals to fill the Grow Bowl, watering the plants, and moistening the grow Media. After the watering cycle, the pump shuts off and the Grow Bowl drains, pulling oxygen into the media. This is ideal for plants, like strawberries and orchids, that love drier, well-drained soils.

How do I connect to WiFi?

You can connect your AeroGarden Bounty or Farm models to your wireless network and utilize the features on your garden when you’re not home, or simply in the other room. When connected to your wireless network, you can adjust your light timer, check the water level, and reset the plant food timer with the AeroGarden app.

  • To connect to your WiFi, tap on the WiFi Icon on the garden.
  • You will get the prompt to search for networks, select your network name (do not use the 5 Ghz network).
  • Click next, then enter the password for your network. Be sure to include any capital letters or symbols that may be in your password.
  • Tap “OK” and the garden will attempt to make the connection. If successful, you will get a message to get the scan code, which is used to link your AeroGarden to the app.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Winter Indoor Garden I actually have several and love all of them. I have a total of 4 which includes the Farm XL I live in the Northeast and love having an indoor winter garden. In the Farm XL I am growing tomatoes and they have many flowers and will probably fruit in a month or so. I have been eating fresh herbs, arugula, lettuces, mustard and swiss chards. I have taken pictures and posted them on my employers Facebook Workplace under Garden Enthusiasts and learned that I have inspired others. I am being asked how to order them and some who had stopped using them are getting back into it. I love the fact that I can also plant my own seeds if I wish.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Grow light won't elevate - for pygmy plants only Can't get the light to elevate - nothing in instructions about how to somehow get the amorphous white plastic rings to disengage so that one can elevate the light - stuck at 11" - will need to transplant plants started in it. Not worth the money. The variety of herbs is mostly species that are not useful - get the greens pack. Or do like I do - reuse the plastic cages with trimmed down generic starter plugs inserted - then you can avoid exorbitant cost of seed-pods and use your personally selected seeds bought via regular vendors. Also be aware that this product makes random startling sharp clicky sounds in addition to the expected sounds of water pumping.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Amazing I’m thrilled with my Aerogarden. I bought the Harvest for my son for his birthday. He loved it so much that I decided to get one for myself. I bought the Bounty Basic. It was super simple to set up. The greens, basil, cherry tomatoes and bell peppers grew so quickly. Only one of my bell peppers didn’t sprout. In about 6 weeks the greens are ready to be eaten. My whole family are enjoying watching our food grow.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Limp lettuce, sparse produce I've tried raising lettuce in the past with an Aerogarden and was disappointed. Lettuce was limp, unpalatable. This time I tried keeping a fan blowing on the lettuce, theorizing that this might toughen up the leaves. Still limp and wilty. Yucky. I my larger Aerogarden I tried tomatoes. Kept a small fan blowing on that to aid with pollination. I get an occasional cherry tomato, only enough for garnish, not for a meal. In another Aerogarden I tried planting my own green beans and snap peas. The occasional snap pea was sour tasting. The occasional green bean was never enough to cook up a single serving.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Buyer Beware: Faulty Unit, Poor Customer Service A huge disappointment. My Bounty Basic has never worked correctly. The water level display shows "medium" no matter what (it appears to be stuck). Getting in contact with the company was a nightmare, response to emails has been terrible (long waits for response and negative suggested "solutions"), and I have never been able to speak with someone on the phone. Their solution (which eventually came on email) is convoluted; according to their long "fix" instructions, I need to take it apart and fool with it like a technician. For a unit that I paid hundreds of dollars for, good customer service would have replaced the unit/sent a new one. I have a Bounty Elite that works well, but the Basic -- along with poor customer service response and ineffectual "answers" -- has been a huge disappointment. Though I've even given units as gifts, because of this experience, I don't recommend this company anymore.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Life-transforming product The AeroGarden Bounty Basic has transformed my life. I bought it during the worst of the pandemic to keep a fresh supply of lettuce and herbs at my finger tips and it has been absolutely phenomenal on so many levels. First, it is incredibly easy to set up and maintain. Much more so than I anticipated. Second, the flavors are so much better than any store bought products. I cannot go back to eating store bought lettuce. Third, it is, in and of itself, a beautiful addition to our kitchen and gives us joy just to look at it. Finally, to spread the joy, I sent one to my friend for her birthday and she loves it just as much as I do.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Beautiful, healthy seedlings growing well on day 5 So far, so good! I received my aerogarden, set up was very easy! I love the black color, sleek look and easy to read electronic directions. Today is day 5. I already have beautiful, healthy looking seedlings growing.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Beautiful and easy to set up We have really enjoyed growing our herbs with the AeroGarden bounty basic. Set up took “basil”-cally 5 minutes, and our herbs were sprouting in no “thyme.” We have never had a garden of our own, so it has been a big “dill” watching our herbs grow. The size is great for our medium size kitchen. It fits like it was “mint” to be! In all seriousness the AeroGarden has been a treat to have. It’s amazing how easy it was to set up, maintain with the digital reminders, and watch the herbs grow quickly!

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Looks great, but... - Unable to grow tomatoes and lettuce at the same time (at least not recommended due to differing plant sizes): I bought the 9-pod size so I could do both. - Tomatoes took months to grow and had no flavor...at all! See Red Heirloom Cherry Tomatoes review. - The light timer stopped working after 4 months (have been sent steps to try to resolve) - Won't take returns after 30-days. I guess I can use the super bright light to attract bugs...just need to figure out how to make a zapper.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Gone but Not Forgotten I'm actually the buyer's wife. He passed away a little over a month after setting his AeroGarden up but he did get to see the young sprouts. I'm happy to say things are growing like crazy and I'll continue to use the garden in my husband's honor.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from My Favorite AeroGarden This is my favorite of all my AeroGardens! I love the menu and easy to read display. My plants all sprouted faster than expected. It operates quietly. I’m so glad I purchased that I ordered a second one.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Minimalist Solution for Fresh Herbs The unit is pretty great so far. Had it about 1-2 months. No complaints. That light is pretty bright so pick a spot that’s out of the way or that you can cover if it bothers you. I sometimes use it as a night light and don’t turn on any other light. It waters fairly frequently so, again, put it out of the way. The thyme was infected upon receipt. Genovese basil was doubled up for some reason. And the mint is a weird varietal that isn’t going great and isn’t like traditional mint. I think I’m going to try the blank pods and sprout seeds from elsewhere. 5 stars for the unit, -1 for the sloppy packaging of seeds and the above mentioned seed issues. Would buy again assuming the unit holds up more than a couple of years.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from The Aerogarden Bounty Basic I love my aerogarden, and the lettuce it’s growing is great. There are just a few things that would make it perfect, I’m having a hard time with the controls water falls on it and I go to wipe it off and it changes the screen on me, and I haven’t been able to figure out how to get it back to were it was. It’s a very minor nuisance but something to think about. Also this really isn’t the machine itself but the lettuce pods two of them failed to produce. I know that the company would of replaced them, there is no need. It’s just that I hope this isn’t too common an occurrence with the seeds. Otherwise I LOVE my Aerogarden and would recommend it to anyone who wants to garden indoors. Can’t wait to try the herbs next.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Not happy as it didn't work when sent I just received this product in the mail today. The lighting did not work. I have plugged and unplugged, removed and reset. Checked the timer multiple times. It does not work. I should have know when I noticed the plastic on the mother board was not flat and was bubbly, also the plug was already in place on the item as if someone already tried it out. I am very disappointed that I will not hear from them for 3 to 4 days. Thats almost shipping time. I may just return so as not to have to deal with them again in the future. It's to bad because I also ordered one for my niece that I may just tell her to return so she doesn't have to deal with the problem I have. Unfortunately will have to wait to hear from them how to procede.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Fun and cheer growing in our home! I have had my Bounty Basic since January 8, 2020. I planted it with four seed pods from Aerogarden: 2 Kale Mix pods, and 2 Heirloom Cherry Tomato pods. We three in our family (two 66-yr-olds, and a 92-yr-old mother!) have enjoyed adding a good bit of kale to our salads, and also have cooked some. As of today (3.31.2020) I count at least 36 green cherry tomatoes on the two plants, from pin-head size to the size of shooter marbles. To this point, a tomato plant on each end, and the two kale mix plants at the rear, are growing well together, though perhaps the tomatoes will ultimately crowd out the kale plants. The Bounty Basic is easy to maintain. I follow the instructions for keeping the water level full, feeding on schedule, and siphoning the water out every four weeks to do its monthly "Rinse & Refill." Its panel reminds me to feed the plants, and if the water gets well, the water icon blinks till it's refilled. It guides the user as to how to set up the garden, and tells how many days the garden is growing from the time it was begun. It also came with a "trellis," which I anticipate using when I grow peppers, cucumbers, etc. Customer service at Aerogarden has been stellar. I have learned very much from advice they've given me, and everyone has been very helpful. I've never been successful at growing anything at all till my foray into the Aerogardens. It's great to have healthy herbs, greens, and beautiful flowers, all without pesticides, e.coli, etc. And it's a lot of fun and cheer in our home.

Rated 2 out of 5 by from Stopped working I bought a bounty basic aerogarden and after only a couple years it had already stopped working. I've bought a total of eight aerogardens over the past 6 years or so and used to be very enthusiastic about my gardens but am just sick of the hassles with them. I've come to the conclusion that their quality is just not worth the money you spend for them, especially the more bigger, more expensive models like the bounty. Something you spend that much money on should last more than 2 years. I'm done. You can build your own hydroponic garden for the fraction of the price you pay for these things, so in the future, that's what I'll be doing if I decide to continue with hydroponic gardening.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Love having an apartment garden in the winter! I bought this for my own seeds and so far it is working great. I have two other AeroGarden gardens. Both are Harvet Elites and growing the AeroGarden seed pods ( lettuce and herbs) has been amazing. We snip and use from both almost daily! The Bounty is for tomatoes and jalapeño peppers. With all three it is like having a slice of warm sunshine on these cold winter days!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Such an incredible idea I live in the Midwest where it is constantly cold so its hard to have a chance to grow fresh vegetables and herbs. Now I have the chance without leaving my home. I can pick several different items or all the same things. It will be great to have the chance to have fresh tomatoes in the winter without leaving home or paying a crazy price. I love the idea of adding fresh herbs to my cooking every night. My kids think its one of the coolest things they've ever seen.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Pretty good; plants too crowded We generally like our aerogarden! My son is so excited to check the progress of the plants, sometimes multiple times a day. One issue I have, though, is that if you choose to grow larger plants like tomatoes or peppers, they will crowd out smaller plants like herbs because the spacing is so close. I wish we'd thought about this ahead of time. We ended up wasting several planting pods because they weren't able to thrive once the two tomato plants got going. Now we basically have five dead small herb pods (because they weren't getting enough light), two tomato plants, and two parsleys that are managing to hold their own. We really do like the system! But do be aware that depending on the mix you choose, you may not get even close to nine plants.
Date published: 2021-03-04
Rated 4 out of 5 by from seed pod choices The units work very well but the problems arise with the seeds. Seed pods contain a tall growing tomato variety. Other companies sell short growing seeds which work much better. Also, it is not possible to select wanted herbs or salad pods, only the complete sets not necessarily what I want. I am using 5 of the units and the bottom line is this: The units are wonderful but the seed selections and choices need more work (or try other dealers)

Rated 5 out of 5 by from So much fun! I bought a Bounty Basic in early September because winter is coming on and I enjoy gardening. Within days, all of my heirloom lettuce have sprouted and look great! So I ordered a second one for Southern Greens. I also ordered one as a birthday gift for my daughter, who enjoys gardening. These are great!
Date published: 2020-09-19
Rated 4 out of 5 by from It has plusses and minuses I don't really understand the selling point of this unit having so many pods, because you can't plan t them all at once and really have the proper resources in balance for 9 plants. Also, you can't mix and match plants. These kinds of details are completely left out of the planting instructions and tips. Also, this unit is for taller plants. You can't just grow any plant in any unit, and this little detail gets left out, too. I enjoy having it, but it takes a good bit more frequent management than the smaller units.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Prolific Basil and dill - Wimpy other herbs. Both kinds of Basil grew well for me. I have made Pesto a few times already. The mint never germinated. The parsley at first didn't germinate either, but Aerogarden sent more pods for that, good on them. The resulting later planted parsley is pathetic, probably because the basil is so prolific, and shadowing the parsley from the light. The dill took off like gangbusters. I think I would advise to stick with one kind of herb in the garden. I do enjoy seeing things grow back after harvesting and pruning.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from A Great Indoor Garden This is my second aero garden and I'm delighted with the bigger model. I already have petunias sprouted as well as golden tomatoes. In my older model, I have so much basil and mint that I offer it to the neighbors!

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Customer Service So far the product is working fine. The problem I'm having is I can't get my Aerogarden registered for warranty. I login into my account and when I click on the warranty registration form, I get an error message. I've tried several times on different days and got the same results. I called the customer service number but no one answered. Got a recording saying they will only communicated via email. Well they don't have a valid email address on their website. I was able to send them messages by filling out a form on their website, but after several days, no one has contacted me.
