Frequently Asked Questions

AeroGardens are designed to help you grow your own herbs, vegetables, salad greens or flowers at home. Our Seed Pod Kits are compatible with every model of AeroGarden. Planting with Seed Pods is fun and easy! Just insert the pre-seeded pods in your garden, add water, and the patented, specially formulated Liquid Nutrients. Most plants germinate within 7-14 days, are ready for harvesting in 4-6 weeks, and will keep producing continuous harvests for up to 6 months and longer. Indoor gardening can’t get any tastier or simpler!

Lettuce is one of the fastest-growing indoor crops and it's a staple. Who doesn't love to be healthy with delicious home-grown lettuce, or add a fresh leaf of romaine on their sandwich, or a salad of tasty arugula? And with AeroGarden, you can enjoy delicious Spring greens all throughout fall and winter!

As a general rule, never prune more than ⅓ of any plant at once.

Different types of plants take different amounts of time to germinate and grow. In general, we’ve found these germination timeframes to be consistent:

  • Flowers take about 7-12 days
  • Salads: 5-8 days
  • Herbs: 5-15 days
  • Fruiting vegetables (such as tomatoes and peppers): 7-14 days.

If any of your seed pods don’t germinate after 21 days, contact us so we can send out a replacement for you under our 100% germination guarantee.

After each planting, we recommend cleaning and sanitizing your AeroGarden for the best results.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Tender Salad Greens - Highly recommended We are new to AeroGardening or any sort of hydroponic gardening. We chose Salad Greens Seed Pod without knowing what to expect. 7 of the 9 pods germinated and 2 did not and after 21 days we requested for pod replacement. AeroGarden sent us the replacements several weeks later but we understand that their office were still close because of COVID-19 Safer-At-Home directive. The salad greens were very pretty, with various shades of greens and reds. They were very tender and we love these greens. We have 5 harvests to date and we are at 51 days and they are still growing well, sweet and tasty. We highly recommend these seed pods if you enjoy tender greens.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from The freshest salad grown right in your home I was a little apprehensive when contemplating growing salad in my AeroGarden. I had had good luck the year before with the AeroGarden growing herbs, but I thought I'd try the salad greens. I was thinking I would need to wait for giant heads of lettuce to grow before I could harvest. But after only 3 weeks, I'm already getting enough for 1-2 servings of salad - and it replenishes itself in a day or two! I can't believe how fast it grows. The other thing is that the leaves are so sweet and tender - nothing like you get in the grocery store. Looking forward to having salads all summer long.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Confusing packaging We just bought my mom this packet for Mother's Day and I was so excited that it included such a variety of greens. Unfortunately, each of the pods is labelled "Salad Greens" so we do not know which variety we are planting. Does each pod contain a single variety or are there multiple varieties/seeds in each pod? I guess we will find out in a few weeks but I wish it would have been labelled more clearly. It would have saved a lot of confusing when setting this up with my mom on Mother's Day!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Gardening In Your Kitchen I love my Aero garden. I have two veggie patches in my kitchen. Right now I'm enjoying plucking tomatoes off the vines and cooking with my herbs. I introduced a friend to Aero and she too is plucking tomatoes off her plant. It is so nice to always have fresh Basil, Thyme, Dill, other herbs handy when cooking or making a salad. You can beat the aroma of fresh herbs in the kitchen. I am able to grow lettuce in my kitchen window which completes my salad. My Aero garden has also replaced my garden in California and now gardening in a small apartment in New York City. Lee

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Salad Garden Great in Salads I love the salad garden kit. It is just like lettuce and great in my salads. It’s much better than the heirloom kit. With that kit the pods grew more like weeds and I kept thinking I was eating weeds. One pod in the salad garden kit just started growing much later than the five others. I think the 6 pod aero garden itself has a critical design flaw. The light does not go tall enough for the plants as they mature and burns the leaves. I harvest the leaves every night for my salad but the tall ones are singed and the light doesn’t go any higher. Otherwise I love the entire experience

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Gorgeous greens! Followed instructions to a T and had thrilling results. Greens sprouted promptly. I have read some reviews and see a lot of folks who forget the dome covering. I found a big difference for the one I purposely omitted. Super happy. Just gifted on for my pop and he is like a kid calling with updates. Great investment. My jalapenos are looking great too!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from My Super Lettuce Garden! All of my pods sprouted in a couple of days. Everything was so easy! My lettuce is growing like weeds and I’m having to harvest it and cut it back because it’s getting too tall for my planter. Everyone comments on how great it looks! ❤️

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Lettuce Grows Well I have to say that I have bought several seed kits over the years and the lettuce seems to grow better than the herbs do - faster and without fail. Would have liked a better mix in this assortment. I usually pick my own,but this time I chose an assortment. I probably won't do that again.

IF I PURCHASE SALAD GREEN KIT BUT CAN NOT PLANT IT RIGHT AWAY, HOW DO I KEEP THE PODS UNTIL I CAN PLANT.

Asked by: DebJ
To ensure the pods stay fresh and ready to plant, we recommend removing the pods from the kit box to be placed in a sealed container, like a Ziploc bag. After they’re stored in a sealed container, place the container in the veggie bin in the refrigerator (or somewhere else that stays dark, dry and cool). The pods will last up to 18 months.

Can I transplant to dirt after germination

Asked by: Meel
To transplant from the AeroGarden to container try these steps: 1. Moisten some high-quality potting soil (get a really good soil from your garden center or a hydroponic store) 2. Remove the plant from AeroGarden. 3. With heavy-duty scissors carefully cut the basket in half lengthwise and remove the pod from the roots. 4. Place roots into a 4-inch peat pot, holding the top of pod level with the top of the pot. 5. Gently drop soil around the roots, building up toward the top, so that when the last soil fills the pot, it is filling around the top of the pod. 6. Press down around the pod, gently, so compress the soil around the pod and support the plant. 7. Add more soil if needed. 8. Place pot in a well lit, but not sunny location for one week, keeping the soil evenly moist (bottom watering is best for this). 9. After a week, move to a sunny location or under grow lights. 10. After another week, start hardening off to move outside. Place plants on a shady porch, first for an hour a day, then gradually increasing as they “harden”. After about a week, if weather permits (above freezing) you can transplant them into the ground or outdoor containers. 11. You can skip steps 1-9 if you harden off the plants well in advance of transplanting, but steps 1-9 really help the plants adjust to soil.

How long does it take for lettuce pods to grow

Asked by: Gigi
Our Salad Greens seed pod kit is literally ready for a first harvest at just 3 weeks. Lettuce is one of the fastest growing indoor crops you can grow, and it's a staple. Here are a few tips to get the most out of salad greens grown in your AeroGarden. Keep lights low. Lettuce thrives on lots of light, like the light provided automatically in your AeroGarden. The more light, the bigger the leaves get. When you prune, prune evenly, with the goal of never raising your AeroGarden light hood. But don’t let your lettuce brown up in the lights either. Harvest and eat it before you get there! Keep it cool. Lettuce is a cool-weather crop. It thrives in temperatures from 55-70 degrees. For best production, keep your lettuce in the coolest spot in your home, or you can add ice cubes to the water. A fan helps here too. The fan can also serve as an easy way to put more bite in your lettuce. Aim a small fan at the lettuce while it is growing. The constant movement on the plants requires them to create tougher leaves to stand up to the wind. Many people find this helps create the texture they are looking for.
