Frequently Asked Questions

How do AeroGardens work?

AeroGardens are designed to help you grow your own herbs, vegetables, salad greens or flowers at home. Our Seed Pod Kits are compatible with every model of AeroGarden. Planting with Seed Pods is fun and easy! Just insert the pre-seeded pods in your garden, add water, and the patented, specially formulated Liquid Nutrients. Most plants germinate within 7-14 days, are ready for harvesting in 4-6 weeks, and will keep producing continuous harvests for up to 6 months and longer. Indoor gardening can’t get any tastier or simpler!

How do I prune Herbs?

Pruning your herbs is important to keep them growing and healthy in your AeroGarden. You can start pruning when the plants are about 2 inches tall. We recommend only pruning about ⅓ of the plant at a time. When growing herbs, keep in mind basil usually sprouts within a week of planting, and grows rapidly. Be sure to prune your basil from the top as needed to keep the grow lights at the lowest position until all the herbs have a chance to catch up. Raising the grow light to accommodate the basil can slow or stop growth for other smaller, slower-growing herbs.

How do you treat bugs on AeroGarden plants?

Insects like whitefly, aphids, and mites that go after plant tissue all stay in check in an outdoor garden because of natural predators. Thankfully there is a natural balance and plenty of predators in the world. Plants grown in an AeroGarden are susceptible to all the same pests as other indoor houseplants. They can enter your home through open windows, on clothing, or on produce, flowers, or potted plants. If you see fine white threads on or between leaves, tiny black or green specks on stems or the underside of leaves, or a sticky substance on the surface of the leaves or grow deck, your plants may have picked up some hitchhikers.

How do I clean my AeroGarden before starting a new garden?

After each planting, we recommend cleaning and sanitizing your AeroGarden for the best results.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Fun to Watch I received my aerogarden as a gift from my son. The first parsley pod had mold, so I replaced it and now this pod is producing leaves. The basil is beautiful and healthy and smells delicious. I didn't have much success with the dill, probably because I didn't prune it enough. I would like to remove the dill pod and replace it with another, however, there don't seem to be any instructions on how to remove one pod from the garden. Pulling it out isn't an option because all the roots are attached. Has anyone removed a pod that has sprouted but isn't doing well? How did you do it? I don't want to disturb the other two plants, as they are doing well.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Wish I’d gotten this years ago! It grows amazingly fast, so much that we end up throwing some herbs away when it needs pruning. We always grow herbs in the garden but in Minnesota it’s great having this year round. The best thing is no bugs or dirt to rinse off, as well as the convenience of having it right there in the kitchen. Two things I wish I’d done differently - I was so eager to start I put them all in right away. I wish I’d started the parsley sooner since that takes much longer to germinate. The others had already grown so big that it’s still struggling for light. I also wish I’d ordered a couple different herbs that we use more often than what came with the kit.

Rated 2 out of 5 by from Need more options on seeds Most of these herbs are too big for the Aero garden. I took the Genovese Basil out and put it outside. Didn't like the Thai Basil. The thyme I put outside along with the mint. The mint was taking over the Aero Garden as mint does. So out it went. The only things I left in there is the Parsley and the dill. I will harvest and dry them out. Put in my seed starting tray and start growing for winter. I wish you had options for smaller veggies like tiny Tim tomatoes and Tom thumb lettuce and little gem lettuce, and Tom thumb peas. Things that stay little that you could keep in the Aero Garden rather then having to place them outside.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Many different herbs to add that flavor to many di I got these Aero brand pre-seeded herb pods and it will be great to have the herbs I use everyday at a reach away! Upon reading the instructions for the herb growth, it is very easy to grow right from your kitchen, simple instructions and very easy to follow, included are Basil, Dill, Mint, Parsley and Thyme! My daughter loves to watch the progress made everyday with these little pods!..Also saves time because you no longer need to do all of the work outside in a garden, these are stress and mess free!..Great product!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from I love cooking iwth fresh herbs all year long! I love cooking with fresh herbs and the change to our meals is huge. I can't begin to tell you how many friends compliment my meals only to find out it is the same recipe they use - with added fresh basil or dill, etc.. I have had the AeroGarden for about 1 year and it was time to get new pods. I chose to get the herbs again and the kit came with Dill, Mint, Parsley, Thai Basil, Genevose Basil and Thyme. I was pleasantly surprised to see the refill kit also came with food, beginning caps etc, since I was expecting just the pods. I cleaned out the system per instruction and easily popped the new pods into the holes. I did run into an issue setting up the timer though. I kept pressing and pressing the buttons. Thinking something was wrong I called customer service and the rep I got was was very sweet , kind and informative. She explained that all the buttons need is a gentle touch LOL. She hen stayed on the phone to make sure it worked and we laughed at how easy it was to do once you stopped pushing. The AeroGarden gourmet herbs will take your food up a few notches in flavor and your family with think you went to a gourmet cooking school - all because you added fresh herbs to your food. And it looks great in my kitchen !!

Rated 2 out of 5 by from poor seed germination To begin with I don't particularly like parsley and since I also bought the cones separate I planted another basil in one of my cones. That is the cone that has grown the best. The regular basil that came with the set grew okay, although it's nowhere near as prolific as the seeds I planted, and the Thai basil did not germinate at all. Also the thyme is such a slow growing herb that it does not get the necessary light now that I had to raise the light. The dill is the only herb that has grown prolifically, and unfortunately it is so much taller that it blocks the light for the others. I do cut it back frequently which also helps prevent it from getting leggy.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from So-so 2/7 didn't germinate 1 basil sprouted but no growth since. When I received the aerogarden for Christmas 4 years ago, everything grew. Since then at least 1 out of 7 didn't germinate. They will replace for free but then you have 1 tiny among 6 giant plants.

Rated 2 out of 5 by from OK for starter pack, but not great. I don't know if this was supposed to come with nine unique herbs, but mine came with eight, and gave me two curly parsleys. I HATE curly parsley, so of COURSE the thing I got doubled up on is the thing I won't eat >.< The pods seem to be inconsistent about how many seeds are in each. I got a ton of sprouts from most everything, but only one sprout from the mint. I don't think that one's going to make it :( I wouldn't buy this again, I'd only be buying custom herb kits so I get what I want and nothing I don't.
